P-Day #51 - New Companion, Training a New D.L. and The Stubborn Lawn Mower...

Hamilton, Ontario

Hi Mom and Dad,

I have a new companion. His name is Elder Garrett and he is from Utah. He’s been out for 9 months. He’s a really good guy and I like him. He is our new District Leader. I think I am the Designated District Leader Trainer as he is the 3rd or 4th D.L I will have trained.

We have been working on reactivation this week and trying to get a list of the less-actives so we can go and help them in any way we can.

I finally got refunded for the battery I had to put in the SUV. Bonus, I don’t have to buy a GPS just yet since Elder Garrett has one..yea!

Mark 1:17 "And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men."

We finally have seen one of our investigators who have not shown up to any of our appointments in three weeks. He works a lot, but, still wants to meet with us. We were able to teach him some of the Plan of Salvation and answer some questions he had about that.

We also did service for a lady who was getting ready to sell her home. We washed her windows for her and mowed her lawn with a lawn mower that would run for 5 minutes and then die. I restarted that mower a hundred times. We gave her the phone number to another set of Elders because she was not in our area. We have one of our recent converts who doesn't come to church and hasn't met with us because she is going through some hard things and she misses my previous companion, Elder Kaku. Please pray for her to have a spiritual connection with us.

We have been working hard on finding new people to teach and we will continue to open our mouths and share the gospel with others.

We had lunch with some office missionaries because they were down in Hamilton. They asked me about going back up to Quebec. They dropped the hint that maybe I should ask the Mission President to be sent back up to Quebec because they need some help up there. Elder Taturu, a former companion of mine, said that he is willing to go back and serve up there. I guess… we’ll see what the future and the Lord desires of us.

For P-Day after Emails, we are going to Niagara Falls and a bird exhibit nearby to see some cool birds. I know Dad will be grateful for lots of Pictures next week.

Love You and Pray for you Every Night & Day!

P-Day #50 - Transfers, Being Around Great Elders & Working on Cars...

We Have The Book of Mormon!!!
What's Your Superpower?

This week we have been busy!

We have been working on getting our car fixed. We had to take the car on our last P-Day to the Subaru Dealer and they had to fix the check engine light. We had to put in a new battery for it and because it would have been expensive for a dealer to put it in. I was able to because I had worked in a hardware store before my mission. We got to the part store right before it closed. I’m getting a lot of life experience so that is good. I feel like I am going to “Life University!”

We have been also working on helping the Ward with doing the Bishop Storehouse and I have been able to help a returning member with her family history. Ancestry and FamilySearch has a 1 button SYNC so it’s nice to be able to help her move some of her data to FamilySearch.

Elder Taylor Completed His Mission This Week. Super Guy! Hope to Meet Up With Him Again!

I have also had the opportunity to help a member with trying to fix his car as well and learning that the car he has, has three metal shell layers.  It’s been a really great experience helping the members out and gaining their trust.

We had some of our investigators not keep their appointments and are working on getting in contact with them again. We have received some referrals from other missionaries. We will be getting in contact with them.

Forever Brothers!

This week is transfers and I am pretty excited to be getting a new companion, Elder Garrett. I am a little sad that Elder Kaku is transferring to Owen Sound,  I will miss him. He has been in Hamilton for almost 6 months, which is quite a long time for a missionary in one place. The rest of our P-Day will consist of going around and letting him say his good-bye’s to everyone.

I am still in Hamilton which is nice because I don't have to pack up my stuff. A transfer lasts 6 weeks and President doesn't like to leave people in one area for beyond 3 to 4 transfers. It is more common than you think. I just have been lucky to have had 5 areas and 4 zones in one year when people usually see 4 zones their whole mission.

Some of us Elders went Bowling….
I wasn’t very good, but we had lots of fun!

I’ll let you know how transfers went next P-Day!

Love you and remember, I pray for you Every Night & Day!

P-Day #49 - Committing a Couple To Be Baptized, Car Problems & Destroying a Shed...

Check out my New Canada Hat, Pretty Sweet!

This week has been a great week full of opening our mouths and teaching baptismal commitments. We have also been doing a lot of service this week.

We had a lesson with two of our investigators who are a couple. As we explained “The Restoration” of The Gospel to them, we explained the power of Prayer. The lady said that she had read the pamphlet and prayed. She said she got the answer that this is true. We then committed them to get baptized and will be working with them to accomplish that goal.

We helped destroy a shed with a splitting maul and lots of energy.  We will be working to rebuild a new one for a man and his friend. It took a lot of time, but we were able to get the job done and have some fun in the process. We were able to help an inactive member move into her new apartment through a service agency called Good Shepard. We were able to get her moved and we were pretty tired, but we were able to keep working through the rest of the night.

It was a really good experience going on exchanges with Mission President Shields and learning how to be bolder in contacting.

I Got a Few Miles on These Dansko's!

My shoes are starting to get a little worn on the tread I am needing to put new insoles in them. It’s hard to believe I’ve been out just under a year. 23 Missionaries are getting ready to go home and another 23 are coming in on our next exchanges. Amazing!

The “Automotive Maintenance" Boy Scout Merit Badge came in handy this week! We have had some car problems, but we are getting them taken care of, so we have been at the dealership once or twice. I had to change the tire this week, so it’s a really good thing to have missionaries learn how to change a tire on the mission. This is the 3rd tire I’ve had to change. I helped the Spanish Elders in Kitchener and a member in a minivan change theirs.

We were able to talk to a lady that had a little too much to drink and we had to make sure that she wouldn't follow us home. We were good and we were able to end that night on a good note.

Remember, I Love You and Pray for you every Night & Day!

P-Day #48 - Canada Day, Helping People Move and A Drop in the Bucket...

Elder Jacob Perry
Canada Toronto Mission

This week was a good one for us.

We had a lot of our investigators show up for church this week.

We had one man we have been teaching come to church and actually find it. He had tried to find the church building last week, but went to the wrong end of the street. We also had a lady come to church who we have been trying to help come to church for a long time. She was nervous but, I think she liked it. It was good to see them there and we will be trying to meet with them this week.

Me & My Homies!
We have been working hard at opening our mouths and sharing The Gospel with others. That has brought some really good conversations up.  We had the opportunity to give a sister a blessing and she felt better after it which I thought was good. I never thought I would be giving so many blessings to so many people.

We were able to talk with this one man who was working in his garden. As we talked, he said that we couldn't find peace in this life. We were able to testify that there was and that we can, through Jesus Christ, and we shared Alma 32 with him. He said to drop-by this weekend and we could teach our message.

We have been able to do a lot of service this week with helping others move and we have been able to strengthen The Ward. We moved a lot of furniture this week for a lot of different people. Sometimes people just need the strong missionaries to help out with things.

Just Hangin' With My Comps...

We finished our map that we have been working on so we can be more effective and we will be able to visit more people.

We had Canada Day which is the Canadian Independence Day. We went with a family to The Festival and were able to give support to a family that just needed our company. The Festival was fun too, even though I did get a little sunburned.

Sometimes it feels like we are a drop in the bucket, but all the drops in the bucket add up till the bucket is full.

I'd like to give a SPECIAL shout out to my Mom...Happy Birthday, Mom. Your very special to me!

Love You Mom and Dad, I pray for you every night and day!
