P-Day #60 - Exchanges, "The Sky Wheel" and Playing Bumper Tag....

Elder Jacob Perry, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Hi Mom and Dad,

This week has been a very busy week for us.

My companion Elder Bertagnolli and half of the YSA companionship were sick part of the week. So, while they were healing up and getting better, the non-sick half and I went on exchanges. We were covering 2 areas with two phones and 1 car.

A Bunch of Elders

We helped a lady move her storage unit this week and we started to talk about the Church. She started to ask us questions and we were able to answer the questions she had. We got a return appointment with her this week. We also were able to have good public relations with an organization who helps those in need.

On Wednesday, who would have thought being tapped on the bumper would turn into an investigator with a return appointment.  Both of our cars had very slight scratches, but nothing that couldn’t be buffed out with a little elbow grease and some wax. However, I did the right thing and filled out a police report and a church incident report. We Elders will use every opportunity to get an appointment, ea’? Making lemons into lemonade!

We were able to give a Chapel and Meetinghouse Tour to some young women who wanted to come to Church. We had a member there with his daughter. It was a blessing to see the daughter giving some of the church tour and reciting some Articles of Faith on what our Church believes and how our services run. We were able to teach them the Restoration and they came to church. They had a great time and we will be teaching them this week.

We had the opportunity to give multiple blessings this week and helping multiple people have peace in their lives. This has helped us see the hand of the Lord in others’ lives and also allow us to see the fruits of our labors as we make a positive impact in people's lives.

P-Day # 59 - "NERF Wars with the Young Men, Movie Night and Watching Motorcycles Street Race....

Pre-Mission Pic of Jacob Perry in Idaho Falls

Dear Mom and Dad,

This week was a busy week for us, but my companion Elder B. got sick and we had a slow start to the week.

We helped with food orders for the Bishop's Storehouse this week. The truck was late so, we set some appointments and made plans for a movie night. We were able to get all the food orders where they needed to go. We were able to help a member who was not able to pick up her food order and were able to drop it off to another chapel so that they could come and pick it up at a later time.

We had a Ward Movie Night and were able to watch "Meet the Mormons" and "17 Miracles". The Spirit was felt and I think we helped strengthen our recent convert who was there.  We were able to get a member referral for a lady who wanted to give her husband a blessing and she wanted a blessing also. We met her in her home and taught her the Plan of Salvation. Then we went to the hospital to give her husband a blessing. I think she really was grateful for us coming over and we set up another appointment with her this week.

We met another recent convert on Sunday. We are working to get him a white shirt and a tie so he can be Ordained to the Aaronic priesthood.

We taught our investigator the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Word of Wisdom. He committed to live both. We have a baptismal date with him for the 30th, but we will have to push it back due to General Conference.

We delivered a Book of Mormon to a thirteen-year-old girl, who when we got there, panicked and forgot all the questions she had. She was still really grateful we gave her one. We will be following up with her this week.

We also helped with a Relief Society Swap Meet and tried to talk to people but everyone was concentrating on the swap.

We had a Nerf War here with the Young Men. It was a little unfair because I am the one with the F.B.I. Tactical Training. It was pretty fun sniping the Young Men with a 50-round drum clip.  I was hiding around a corner and just as the YM thought they had made it, I would unload on them…It was awesome! Oh, I definitely haven’t lost my touch!

Here’s a pretty exciting story…It was pretty good. Last night we were driving home and saw some motorcycles street racing. As we were driving up, the light turned green and they took off.  They got half way through the block, and a cop pulls out and lights them all up. They scattered like bugs when you turn on the lights…we got to watch it all go down. We followed one and watched him.  As he saw the cop pull off the road to go after his buddy, he sped to the other side of town. Now that’s a buddy, ea’?

We will continue to work hard and open our mouths for those who want to hear.

Remember I Pray for you every night & day!

P-Day #58 - My First Baptism, Having to Dunk Him Twice and Going to the Toronto, Ontario Temple...What a Great Week!

Elder Perry(L), Elder Bertagnolli, Friends of Joshua
New Convert Joshua(on Scooter)

Hi Mom and Dad,

This week was a REALLY good week for us. WE HAD A BAPTISM!

We have been working hard this week on preparing for the baptism of our investigator, Joshua. He’s a great guy!  I had to dunk him twice because his knees came up. Otherwise, it was pretty fun. It’s the only time missionaries get to go into the water on our mission. The baptismal font hadn’t been used in 3 months, so we were able to give it a deep clean prior to the event. We also confirmed him a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and now the Bishop is talking about conferring the Aaronic Priesthood to him soon.

Prior to the baptism, we went to the Temple and I was on the witness team for the font. Then we were able to do confirmations.  What a GREAT DAY! We helped our recent convert baptize and confirm her family names. She was very excited and she loved going to the temple, as did we all.

We were able to contact some referrals this week that we had received from some other missionaries in our zone.

We were able to find a new investigator this week through a member in the Ward. We were able to meet at a member’s home and teach him the Restoration. He understood it and came to church as well. We have another appointment with him this week and we will continue to work with him.

I have been sick for the past week. I am slowly recovering, but it has been a good week!

On a lighter note, I taught Elder Bertagnolli how to pick a lock and he managed to get it unlocked with paper clips. We are getting along great. He said “working with me is the most fun he has had on his mission” and he’s been out 19 months.

We will continue to work hard and help others come to the knowledge that Jesus is the Christ. We will be opening our mouths and inviting others to come unto Christ.

Remember, I pray for you night and day!

P-Day # 57 - Harley Davidson Shopping , Living Waters, and an Upcoming Baptism.....

Shop at Niagara Falls, Ontario

Dear Mom and Dad,

This week has been a really good week for us.

We had a baptismal Interview this week and our investigator passed his interview…YEA!  So, we will be hard at work preparing for the baptism this Saturday. We have been working on getting all the paperwork filled out and everything set up. I hope it turns out well.

We also were able to move a member of the Ward into another area. We really had no problems lifting the things she had up some stairs into her apartment and were able to help grease the windows of her apartment as well so she can open her windows easier.

My new companion is Elder Bertagnolli from Cedar City, Utah.  We are getting along great & work really well together. He’s “Goodfella”!

We have been putting a lot of information into the computer so that we will have easier access to it and easier searching ability when looking through former investigators. We did manage to get it done this week so we will be able to use it in the coming weeks and see the rewards from it.

A couple of pics from Niagara Falls from the Canadian Side

We were able to talk to a guy in a subway and as we talked, we were able to ask him what he has heard about the church. He said that he had heard some things and we asked if we could meet with him again. We will be trying to set an appointment with him in the future.

Here is a movie quote I was thinking about this week.  I added what is in the parentheses to make it apply to our mission.

" We never stop. From the time they get into the chopper to the tarmac. We never stop.
Being a (spiritual) coroner is not in our job description".

Have a Great week and remember...

I pray for you night & day!
